Dubai Travel Guide
Dubai Golf Clubs
TDubai may be a desert city, but it does not mean that you will never find green meadows, trees and rolling hills in Dubai. In fact, you can, and there’s quite a lot of them, making golfing very possible in Dubai.
Golf is a rather popular sport in Dubai. Perhaps, this could be one reason why there are several golf courses in Dubai, and most of these are far from the usual, ordinary golf courses that you see. Dubai, in fact, houses many of the best and the finest golf courses in the world.
Three of Dubai’s best golf courses, the Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club, and Emirates Golf Club Majilis and Wadi by Faldo Courses, are being managed by Dubai Golf. These golf courses are known all over the world, so if you want to make early reservations to guarantee a playing time, you can do that online. Dubai Golf also has a Central Reservations System that enables you to book at any of the golf courses found in the United Arab Emirates.
Interestingly, Dubai Golf is not just about golf. There is the world-renowned Golf Academy, as well as luxurious spa facilities and world class hotels.
Other golf courses of note are the Emirates Golf Club Majilis and The Wadi by Faldo courses. The Emirates Golf Club hosts the PGA European Tour events, the Dubai Desert Classic, which was won by Tiger Woods in 2008, and the Dubai Ladies Masters.
Further, the club boasts of a 9-hole par 3 course, a golf academy, fine restaurants, bars, a well-equipped gym, and a swimming pool.
Aside from Dubai, there are other parts of the Middle East that also have great golf courses. The Abu Dhabi Golf Club, for one, is definitely worth seeing. The abundance of greens composed of palm trees, ornamental shrubs, and trees, is welcoming and comforting. There are also at least nine saltwater lakes within the club premises, giving the Abu Dhabi Golf Club its unique charm.
Only 15 minutes away from the heart of the city, and only a 10-minute drive
from the international airport, the Abu Dhabi Golf Club has 27 holes.
Professionally managed by Troon Golf, the Abu Dhabi Golf Club has a club house
that takes on a falcon shape, complete with wings outstretched. Here, you can
indulge in elegant dining, burn calories, hold seminars, meetings or something
else, go for a swim in its swimming pools, or have a relaxing spa.
The Abu Dhabi Golf Club hosts the coveted European PGA Tour, Abu Dhabi Golf
Championships yearly, participated in by the best of the best in golf. Martin
Kaymer won this event in 2008.
Another golf club in the Middle East is the Royal Golf Club in Bahrain,
specifically at the heart of the Riffa Views. The Royal Golf Club, which is
the business name of Bahrain International Golf Course Company, has been
operating since 1999, but it is expected to be fully operational by November
2008. This 18-hole championship golf course was designed by no less than Colin
Montgomerie, a golfing legend, complete with floodlights to enable anyone who
wishes to play from sun up to sun down. Among other things golf fanatics will
look forward to when Royal Golf Club begins its full operations are the Royal
Golf Academy, and driving range, a club house featuring a golf shop,
conference rooms and facilities, and restaurants, among other things.
In Qatar, you will see another golf course, designed by Peter Harradine. This
18-hold championship course hosts the European and Asian PGA Tour, Qatar
Masters Tournament, recently won by Adam Scott. More luxury
Dubai golf clubs.
If you are planning to go golfing in these parts of the Middle East, choose the months between September and May when the weather is not excruciatingly hot.
